Spring Activity Ideas

Egg Carton Ladybug

Egg Carton Ladybug png
Materials
  • Paints - black and red
  • Paint brushes
  • Egg carton
  • Scissors
  • Red card
  • Glue
  • Black marker
  • Googly eyes
Get Started:
The body

Start by cutting up the cups, use one section per ladybug.
You can trim off the sides so they're smoother.
Paint the top of each egg carton cup red and wait to dry, once dried, paint the bottom section black.

The wings

Cut a circle out of the red card, then cut in half and black circles on each of the halves.
Glue the wings on top of the egg carton and the googly eyes on the front.
Let the glue dry and you're done!

Caterpillar to Butterfly

Materials
  • Paints
  • Paint brushes
  • Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Card - green and white
  • Glue
  • Pebbles
  • String
  • Leaves
Get Started:
The Egg

Start by cutting the green card into a leaf shape.
Draw a leaf pattern onto the card.
Paint a small round pebble with some with paint, and once dry, glue onto the leaf.

The Caterpillar

Cut another green card into a leaf shape.
Draw a left pattern onto the card and cut out some teeth marks.
Paint a stick green and once dried, cut out and glue some eyes onto it.
Once dry glue onto the leaf.

The Cocoon

Cut a cocoon shape on the card.
Glue the leaves and string onto the card cocoon.

The Butterfly

Cut the butterfly wings.
On one half of the card, paint the wing in different colours, then fold in half.
Once the paint has dried, glue a stick to the middle of the wings.
Let the glue dry and you're done!




Paper Rainbow and Clouds

  • Paper card
  • Cotton wool
  • Red paper
  • Orange paper
  • Yellow paper
  • Green paper
  • Blue paper
  • Indigo paper
  • Violet paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
Get Started:
The cloud

Start by cutting the card into a cloud shape.
Glue the cotton wool onto the card.

The rainbow

Cut the red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet paper into strips, so they can be placed next to each other and still fit into the cloud.
Glue the coloured paper onto the back of the cloud.
Let the glue dry and you're done!




Paper-chain Caterpillar

  • Paper

  • Sticky tape
  • Glue
  • Googly eyes
Get Started:
The body

Cut the paper into 5 or 6 strips of the same size, one strip could be 8cm wide by 18 cm long.
Create a circle with one of the strips and sticky tape the ends together.
Repeat the process until all of the strips have been used.

The head

Cut a circle out then glue the googly eyes to it.
Once dry, glue the head to the caterpillar's body.
Let the glue dry and you're done!




Popcorn Brownies

Ingredients
  • 50g of sweet popcorn
  • 40g of self-raising flour
  • 150g of icing sugar
  • 20g of cocoa powder
  • 150g of dark chocolate
  • 90g of unsalted butter
  • 2 tsp golden syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 150g of white chocolate buttons
Materials
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • 1 tablespoon
  • Sieve
  • Electric hand whisk
  • 10cm square baking tin
Get Started:

Wash your hands.
Preheat the oven to 180°C, and line a baking tin with parchment paper.
Sift the flour, icing sugar and cocoa powder into a bowl and set aside.
Add the dark chocolate, butter and golden syrup to a pan and place over a low heat.
Heat until the chocolate melts, then add the vanilla extract and stir.
Crack the eggs into a bowl and whisk until pale and fluffy.
Slowly fold the warm melted chocolate mixture into the eggs, then gently fold in the flour mixture until fully incorporated.
Add the white chocolate and 25g of the popcorn.
Pour the mixture into the lined baking tin and bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
Remove the tray from the oven and allow to cool.
Once cool enough to handle, remove from the tray, cut into squares and serve with the rest of the popcorn, enjoy!




Cotton wool veg

Materials
  • Cotton wool
  • Glasses
  • A Bean
  • Cress seeds
  • Water
Get Started:

Place cotton wool in the bottom of a glasses.
In one of the glasses, sprinkle the seeds over the cotton wool.
In the other glass, place the bean in the side of the glass (so you can watch it grow).
Water the glasses so that the cotton wool is damp.
Then watch your seeds sprout!




Spring Scavenger Hunt

We bought some reusable A4 wipe clean pockets which can be written on.

Benefits

Scavenger hunts allow kids to practice problem-solving in a tangible way.

It helps to reinforce and act-out methods they have been taught by parents or teachers in a physical way, leading to increased retention of the lessons.

Scavenger hunts help exercise the mind by reinforcing problem-solving skills.

However, they can also be good exercise for the body.

You can incorporate clues that get children moving and running from place to place.

You can even get creative and have your child run to the top of a hill, wander into the woods or climb a tree for the next clue. Get those legs moving!




Bubble wrap printing

Materials
  • Paint
  • Paint brush
  • Bubble wrap
  • Coloured card
  • Paper
Get Started:

Lay the bubble wrap down and paint.
Once covered, gently press the bubble wrap down on the paper.
Remove carefully, wait for the paint to dry.
Using the coloured card, cut out an umbrella shape.
Glue the umbrella to the paper, wait for it to dry and you're done!




Tissue Paper Snail

Materials
  • Coloured tissue paper
  • Card paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Googly eyes
Get Started:

Start by cutting out a snail shape.
Cut the different coloured tissue paper into small pieces.
Crumple up the small pieces of tissue paper into small balls, or you can simply keep them as small pieces.
Then glue the tissue paper to the snails shell.
Once dry, attach pipe cleaner to the snails head using the glue.
Let the glue dry and you're done!




Art Forger

Materials
  • Image of a famous painting
  • Paper
  • Paints
  • Paint brushes
Get Started:

Place the famous painting in-front of you.
Use the paint and paper to try and make a copy the paintings.
Once dried, place in a frame.

Benefits

Young children are able to work on their fine motor skills.
All children will learn about a famous artist, as well as exploring colour mixing and experiment with a new media.
